About
What I do.
Based in the small West Country town of Malmesbury. Rust and Rot resides in an old stone donkey shed, by the river Avon, in the shadow of an ancient Abbey.
It is here that I sympathetically restore the wonderful things I buy. Removing years of grime, repairing damage and hopefully making the items desirable again. I feel the items offered should be attractive, useful and interesting, and if possible should be all three.
I specialise in decorative, unique, beautiful interior design, . When sourcing stock the question is, would I like to have in my home?
My impact on the environment.
The antiques trade, when done well can be a very green business. Everything is second hand and most things retain a value and usefulness that makes their restoration economical.
At Rust and Rot I believe in trying to keep my impact on the environment to a minimum. My workshop is powered by renewable green energy and has led lighting throughout. Heating is provided via a wood burner fuelled by waste wood from the building industry; alternatively I work harder until it feels warmer! My packing boxes are used moving boxes and I am a collection point for unwanted packaging materials that I then reuse as void fillers, avoiding them going directly to landfill.
Outside the workshop I have planted an orchard and wild flower garden, including a bird feeding station and various insect houses. It is here I drink coffee and think about the jobs I'm putting off.
